DOSSIER / RECORD 03
Prepare an image-service account exit plan
Know the steps for stopping charges, removing content and closing an account before using a personal-media service.
Separate three different actions
Cancelling a recurring payment, deleting content and closing an account are different actions. Do not assume one automatically performs the other two. Write a separate row for each one when reviewing a service.
For a Clothoff-labelled service, begin with operator verification. This guide has not established an official account system, so it cannot provide a verified menu path or promise that a particular control exists.
Keep only appropriate records
If you have ordinary non-sensitive material you are entitled to retain, review it before an irreversible deletion action. Avoid keeping unwanted personal media simply because it is present in a collection.
A receipt or account reference may be useful for a billing question. Store that separately from media and transcripts. Do not send passwords, complete card numbers or unnecessary personal images in a support request.
Document a removal request minimally
State the account or record category, the requested action and the service domain. A short specific request is easier to follow than a large attachment of everything associated with the account.
Keep the date and a neutral reference to the request. A confirmation from the operator can be recorded as a statement; it does not give an independent observer access to the underlying deletion process.
Check whether the explanation addresses the whole request
A reply saying that a subscription was cancelled does not necessarily answer a content-deletion question. A record stating that a file disappeared from a collection does not settle the account-data categories. Match each reply to the row it actually addresses.
If the operator has not supplied an answer, leave the row open. This is a research plan, not a guarantee that every service will handle each request in a particular way.
A practical record
| Action | Do not assume it also means |
|---|---|
| Cancel renewal | All media and account data were deleted |
| Remove a file | The entire account was closed |
| Close an account | Every billing question was settled |
An exit plan should make the remaining questions visible. Prepare it before a personal file becomes part of an account.
